For an Indian SME the deciding criteria are IRN e-invoicing and e-Way Bill support, GSTR filing, one system across several GSTINs, published INR pricing and local support. Our shortlist is TallyPrime, Zoho Books, Busy, ERPNext, Odoo and Flowyana, with four more compared below. Where no package fits, Dictode builds a custom ERP on Flowyana, typically in 4–8 weeks.

How we compared ERP software for India
GST decides most of this list. An ERP sold in India must carry HSN codes on every line, split tax into CGST, SGST and IGST by place of supply and, above ₹5 crore aggregate turnover, report each B2B invoice to an Invoice Registration Portal and print the IRN and signed QR it returns. So the first thing we checked is what each vendor itself says about IRN e-invoicing, e-Way Bill and GSTR preparation, quoted only from its own site and marked checked 2026-09-23; silence on the subject earns no credit.
Next came multi-GSTIN and multi-branch handling, offline billing at the counter, published INR pricing (quote-based where none exists), deployment on desktop, cloud or both, depth beyond accounting such as batch stock and bills of materials, and a partner network you can reach from Kochi or Bengaluru. One wording note: GSTN keeps a list of GST Suvidha Providers that carry e-invoice traffic; being on it is a registration, not a rating.
The shortlist: ten ERP and accounting systems for Indian SMEs
The ten products below run roughly from the most widely installed in India to the newest entrant, not from best to worst. Every compliance line and every rupee figure is what the vendor published on its own site, checked 2026-09-23; re-confirm before signing.
TallyPrime — The system most Indian accountants know and the one an SME usually migrates from. Tally's site describes e-invoicing that sends each invoice to the IRP and returns the IRN and QR code, e-Way Bill generation and GSTR-1 filing from inside the software (checked 2026-09-23). Published prices: Silver single-user ₹750 a month or ₹22,500 lifetime, Gold multi-user ₹2,250 a month or ₹67,500 lifetime, plus 18% GST (checked 2026-09-23). Desktop first; strong for accounts-led traders, thin on CRM and production.
Zoho Books — Cloud accounting with a large Indian base and a path into the Zoho One suite. The India pricing page lists a free plan under ₹25 lakh revenue, then Standard ₹749, Professional ₹1,499 and Premium ₹2,999 per organisation per month billed yearly, up to Ultimate at ₹7,999, taxes extra, with GST filing and e-invoicing from Standard upward (checked 2026-09-23). Right for service firms and Bengaluru startups; stock and manufacturing are lighter than a full ERP.
Busy — Desktop accounting with a loyal following among distributors. busy.in lists subscriptions SMART ₹8,000 and POWER ₹12,000 per 360 days, each with e-invoice and e-Way Bill creation capped at 10,000 and 20,000 documents, POWER+ ₹50,000 for ten users, and perpetual licences from Basic ₹11,000 to Enterprise ₹22,000, GST extra (checked 2026-09-23). POWER is pitched at multi-branch operations. Choose it when GSTR reconciliation, not production, is the pain.
Marg ERP — Desktop software rooted in pharma, FMCG distribution and retail counters. Its price list shows Marg ERP 9+ Basic ₹7,200 (up to two users), Silver ₹13,500 and Gold ₹25,200 for unlimited users, yearly renewal ₹3,000–₹7,200, GST and customisation extra, sold only through local partners (checked 2026-09-23). The e-invoicing page describes uploading invoices to the IRP, printing IRN and QR, and validating a party GSTIN (checked 2026-09-23). Scheme-heavy wholesale with batch expiry is its home ground.
Vyapar — A mobile-first billing and stock app for micro and small traders. Vyapar's site says it obtains the IRN and QR code through the GST e-invoicing system, raises an e-Way Bill from the same screen, produces GSTR-1, GSTR-3B and GSTR-9 reports and bills offline; its pages show desktop plans Silver ₹283, Gold ₹308 and Retail Pro ₹833 a month (checked 2026-09-23). The floor of this list: right for one shop, outgrown once you need production.
ERPNext — Open-source under AGPL and a complete ERP: accounting, stock, manufacturing, HR and CRM. Frappe's pricing page says you may self-host for nothing or run on Frappe Cloud from $5 (about ₹410) a month per site (checked 2026-09-23). The free India Compliance app by Resilient Tech, listed on the Frappe Cloud marketplace, provides e-invoice and e-Way Bill integration with the NIC portal, GSTR-1 preparation and GSTR-2A/2B reconciliation (checked 2026-09-23). The software is free; the partner implementation is not.
Odoo — A modular suite Indian manufacturers and online sellers pick for breadth. Its INR pricing page lists One App Free, Standard from ₹580 per user per month billed yearly, and Custom from ₹890 for multi-company and on-premise hosting (checked 2026-09-23). Odoo's India localisation docs describe submitting e-invoices to the NIC portal for the IRN and QR, generating e-Way Bills and sending GSTR-1 through a GSP set in accounting settings (checked 2026-09-23). Budget for a partner; user fees are the smaller half.
SAP Business One — The mid-market standard for companies heading past ₹50 crore, implemented by partners on cloud or on-premise. SAP's site routes buyers to a request-a-quote form rather than a price, so it is quote-based (checked 2026-09-23). Its public product page does not state IRN e-invoicing; partners deliver it as an add-on, so get that in writing. Pick it for group consolidation, not a two-branch trader.
Kladana — A cloud inventory and order ERP for small Indian manufacturers and wholesalers. Its pricing page offers a Free plan (one user), then Start, Growth, Business and Business Plus with up to 30% off yearly, and says prices start from ₹742 a month, GST extra (checked 2026-09-23). The site describes GST-compliant invoicing but we found no statement on IRN e-invoicing or e-Way Bill, so ask first (checked 2026-09-23). Suits a workshop that needs stock and orders more than a ledger.
Flowyana — Dictode's ERP for SMEs. Ships today: GST invoicing with HSN and the CGST, SGST and IGST split, purchasing, inventory with batch, expiry and serials, bills of materials, offline POS on the desktop build, CRM, attendance and payroll posting, and multi-branch with a GSTIN per branch. Not shipped: IRN e-invoicing, e-Way Bill, PF and ESI outputs; Dictode builds those per customer, typically in 4–8 weeks, and you keep the source. Quote-based, per module, sized by users and branches (flowyana.com, checked 2026-09-23). Cloud or on-premises.
India GST compliance checklist for ERP
GST runs on slabs of 0%, 5%, 12%, 18% and 28%, with 18% the common rate. Registration is compulsory from ₹40 lakh turnover for goods and ₹20 lakh for services, lower in special-category states, and the ERP must hold one GSTIN per state. Every line needs an HSN or SAC code, six digits once turnover passes ₹5 crore.
E-invoicing covers B2B invoices, credit notes and debit notes once aggregate turnover in any year since 2017-18 has crossed ₹5 crore: each document goes to an IRP, which returns the IRN and signed QR for the print. Since 1 April 2025, businesses at ₹10 crore and above have thirty days from the invoice date to report, after which the portal rejects it, so the ERP should flag late uploads. An e-Way Bill is needed when a consignment exceeds ₹50,000, inside a state or across one.
Returns run monthly, or quarterly under QRMP up to ₹5 crore: GSTR-1 for outward supplies, GSTR-3B for the summary and GSTR-9 annually, on a 1 April to 31 March year the system should lock once filed. Payroll adds Provident Fund, ESI, professional tax and TDS, which few SME ERPs output natively. For a state-level view, including intra-state e-Way Bill exemptions, see our Kerala ERP and accounting guide.
When custom beats off-the-shelf in India
Packaged ERP wins on price and speed when your process matches its template, and loses in three recurring cases. Multi-branch pricing: per-user or per-company fees balloon at six GSTINs and forty counters, and the same money often buys a system built for that footprint. An industry workflow the package cannot express: jobwork under GST with material sent and returned, or a hospital pharmacy billing by department. And integration with what surrounds you: a weighbridge, a payment gateway feed, a marketplace order stream, or a Tally the auditor insists on keeping.
That is where Dictode builds on Flowyana instead of selling a module: IRN e-invoicing, e-Way Bill from the invoice, PF and ESI outputs, a Tally migration or a custom approval chain, scoped per company and delivered typically in 4–8 weeks, cloud or on your own server, source included. You pay package rates for the ordinary ninety percent and engineering only for what makes your business different.
How to run the selection in 30 days
Days 1–7: a one-page brief listing every GSTIN, branch and warehouse, last year's aggregate turnover, the number of billing and stores users, and the five reports the owner reads weekly. Export item masters with HSN and a month of invoices to use in every demo.
Days 8–18: demos with three or four vendors on your data. Have each generate one IRN, one e-Way Bill and one GSTR-1 draft in front of you and lock a filed period. Get prices in writing per user, per branch and per year, with implementation and training separate.
Days 19–30: score finalists on compliance shown, workflow fit, three-year cost and the support team you met; call two references in your industry; then set cut-over on a quarter start, ideally 1 April, so opening balances and the return cycle begin clean.
Compliance-Checkliste
- Every GSTIN, registered address and state code, and last year's aggregate turnover to know whether the ₹5 crore e-invoicing and ₹10 crore 30-day rules apply
- Item master export with HSN or SAC, unit of measure and GST rate for each product
- A count of billing, stores and accounts users per branch, and which counters need offline billing
- The documents that leave the building: e-invoices, e-Way Bills, credit notes, jobwork challans, and who signs off each
- Last year's licence, AMC and CA fees, so a quote can be compared on three-year cost
- Integration needs: bank or payment gateway, marketplaces, weighbridge or barcode hardware, and any system the auditor wants kept

Haben Sie eine andere Frage? Mit dem Vertrieb sprechen
Which ERP is best for a small trading or manufacturing SME in Kochi or Bengaluru?
For a trading firm under ₹5 crore, TallyPrime or Busy with a local partner covers GST and stock at a known price. Above that, or with a production floor, ERPNext or Odoo through a partner adds bills of materials and IRN e-invoicing. For unusual workflows, Flowyana plus Dictode-built pieces is the fourth option.
How much does ERP software cost in India?
Published prices run from free tiers (Zoho Books under ₹25 lakh revenue, Kladana, Odoo One App) to roughly ₹8,000–₹25,000 a year for a desktop licence such as TallyPrime, Busy or Marg, and ₹580–₹890 per user per month for Odoo. SAP Business One and Flowyana are quote-based. Implementation is usually the larger number.
Is TallyPrime ready for GST e-invoicing?
Tally's own site says TallyPrime sends invoices to the IRP, fetches the IRN and QR code, generates e-Way Bills and files GSTR-1 from within the product (checked 2026-09-23). Ask your Tally partner to demonstrate it on your GSTIN, since the connected features depend on an active subscription.
Is Flowyana the best ERP for India?
It depends on what is missing. Flowyana ships GST invoicing, stock, production, POS, CRM and payroll posting; it does not ship IRN e-invoicing or e-Way Bill. If you want connected GST filing out of the box, TallyPrime, Busy or Zoho Books will be cheaper; if you need custom workflow plus those integrations built to order, Flowyana with Dictode fits better.
Cloud or on-premises ERP in India?
Cloud suits multi-branch businesses because every GSTIN sees the same stock and ledger; Zoho, Odoo, Kladana and ERPNext are cloud-first. Desktop products such as TallyPrime, Busy and Marg keep billing when the connection drops and keep data in the office. Flowyana runs either way.
How long does an ERP rollout take in India?
A single-company accounting package can be live in one to two weeks. A multi-branch ERP with stock, production and GST integrations typically takes six to twelve weeks, and custom work such as IRN e-invoicing or a Tally migration built by Dictode runs 4–8 weeks in parallel.
