Per-user, per-role and capacity pricing
BI vendors charge in three ways, and the cheapest tool for ten people is rarely the cheapest for two hundred. Per-user pricing charges one fee for every person who signs in: Power BI Pro, Klayara and Metabase work this way. Per-role pricing charges more for people who build reports than for people who only read them, which is how Tableau sells Creator, Explorer and Viewer licences. Capacity pricing charges for compute or data volume instead of people, as with Microsoft Fabric F capacities and Qlik Cloud Analytics Standard and Premium.
Each model has a trap. Per-user pricing grows with every branch manager you invite. Per-role pricing forces a licence decision for every new hire and tends to leave people on the cheapest tier, unable to answer their own questions. Capacity pricing is generous with readers but expensive to enter, and a heavy refresh schedule can exhaust the capacity you bought. Before comparing, count builders, readers and people who only need a scheduled PDF or email.
Published BI prices, vendor by vendor (checked 2026-10-21)
Every figure below is in US dollars, excludes tax and comes from the vendor's own pricing page or documentation as we read it on 2026-10-21. Reopen the page before you buy.
Microsoft Power BI — Pro US$14 and Premium Per User US$24 per user per month, paid yearly; a free account exists for personal use. Fabric capacities are billed per capacity unit hour, US$0.18 pay-as-you-go in the Azure East US price list, and Microsoft's licensing documentation says readers with a free licence can view Power BI content only on an F64 or larger capacity. Tableau — Standard edition Creator US$75, Explorer US$42 and Viewer US$15 per user per month, billed annually, with Enterprise edition Creator at US$115; every deployment needs at least one Creator.
Looker Studio, renamed Data Studio by Google, is a no-cost tool; the Pro subscription adds team workspaces and is billed per user per project, with its price shown in the Google Cloud console rather than in the documentation we read. Metabase — the open-source edition is free to self-host; Starter costs US$100 a month including 5 users plus US$6 per extra user, Pro US$575 a month including 10 users plus US$12 per extra user, and Enterprise starts at US$20,000 a year. Qlik Cloud Analytics — Starter US$300 a month for 10 users with 10 GB of data, Standard US$825 a month for 25 GB with no charge for additional users, Premium US$2,750 a month for 50 GB, all billed annually.
Klayara Analytics — the BI platform made by Dictode, priced per user with one price for builders and readers: Starter US$10 per user per month billed yearly or US$12 monthly, for 3 to 25 users with a minimum of 3; Growth US$18 billed yearly or US$22 monthly, for 5 to 200 users with a minimum of 5, adding row-level permissions, column masking and monthly AI credits; Enterprise, including self-hosting on your own servers, is quoted. There is no free trial.
What a 10-person and a 50-person team pays
Ten people, monthly cost at list price. Power BI Pro: 10 × US$14 = US$140. Power BI Premium Per User: 10 × US$24 = US$240. Tableau Standard with 2 Creators, 3 Explorers and 5 Viewers: 2 × 75 + 3 × 42 + 5 × 15 = US$351. Looker Studio: US$0. Metabase Starter: US$100 + 5 × US$6 = US$130. Qlik Starter: US$300. Klayara Starter: 10 × US$10 = US$100 billed yearly, or Klayara Growth 10 × US$18 = US$180 if you need row-level permissions and AI.
Fifty people. Power BI Pro: 50 × US$14 = US$700; a Fabric F64 capacity that lets free users read costs 64 × US$0.18 × 730 hours = US$8,409.60 a month pay-as-you-go before reservation discounts, so it pays off only for much larger audiences. Tableau Standard with 5 Creators, 10 Explorers and 35 Viewers: 5 × 75 + 10 × 42 + 35 × 15 = US$1,320. Metabase Pro: US$575 + 40 × US$12 = US$1,055. Qlik Standard: US$825 with no per-user charge. Klayara Growth: 50 × US$18 = US$900 billed yearly; Starter is not an option because it stops at 25 users.
These are licence lines only. Add the data warehouse or database the tool reads from, the hours someone spends building and maintaining the model, and, for self-hosted open source, the server and the person who patches it. A free tool with a half-built model costs more than a paid one that people actually open.
Arabic dashboards, self-hosting and when Dictode builds them
For Gulf teams, right-to-left support is a cost line that price pages leave out. Microsoft states that Power BI Desktop does not support right-to-left languages; Tableau's published interface languages do not include Arabic; Metabase documents its interface as designed around left-to-right languages; Looker Studio's interface languages do not include Arabic; Qlik Cloud lets an app switch to a right-to-left reading order. Klayara runs its whole interface in English and Arabic with a right-to-left layout chosen per user. Where a tool does not mirror, teams pay for two hand-built copies of every report, which our Arabic BI dashboards guide covers in detail.
Self-hosting changes the bill too. Metabase open source and Tableau Server install on your own machines, Power BI Report Server needs Fabric F64 or larger reserved capacity or SQL Server core licences, and Klayara self-hosting sits on its quoted Enterprise plan.
Dictode builds dashboards when you have the data but no analyst: we connect your ERP, POS, CRM or spreadsheets, model the measures, lay out English and Arabic views and schedule the reports, typically in 2–4 weeks for a first release. We build on Klayara Analytics or on the tool you already pay for, quote a fixed scope within 24 hours of the discovery call, and hand over everything we build.
Liste de contrôle de conformité
- Count builders, readers and people who only need a scheduled PDF or email
- Price each tool at today's headcount and at your size in two years
- Check whether readers need a paid licence, and at what capacity size that changes
- List the data sources each tool must reach and whether a warehouse is needed in between
- Test an Arabic right-to-left dashboard on each shortlisted tool if any reader works in Arabic
- Decide whether data may sit in the vendor's cloud or must stay on your own servers
- Budget the hours to build and maintain the data model, not only the licences

Which BI tool is cheapest for a small team?
Looker Studio (Data Studio) is free. Among paid tools at 10 users, Klayara Starter costs US$100 a month billed yearly, Metabase Starter US$130 and Power BI Pro US$140 (checked 2026-10-21). The cheapest choice depends on where your data lives and who must see it.
Is Klayara a Power BI alternative?
Yes, for teams that want one price per user for builders and readers, an English and Arabic right-to-left interface, and the option to self-host on Enterprise. Power BI is stronger if you already live in Microsoft 365 and need DAX or a large partner network.
How much does Power BI cost for 50 users?
With Power BI Pro at US$14 per user per month paid yearly, 50 users cost US$700 a month (checked 2026-10-21). Premium Per User at US$24 costs US$1,200. Free-licence viewing needs an F64 or larger Fabric capacity, which costs far more.
How is Klayara priced?
Per user, with one price for builders and readers: Starter US$10 per user per month billed yearly (US$12 monthly, minimum 3 users), Growth US$18 billed yearly (US$22 monthly, minimum 5 users), Enterprise quoted. There is no free trial. Plans are listed on klayara.com/pricing.
What is capacity pricing in BI?
You pay for compute or data volume instead of named users. Qlik Standard charges US$825 a month for 25 GB of data with no charge for extra users, and Microsoft Fabric bills per capacity unit hour. It suits large reader audiences and is costly for small teams.
Can Dictode build our dashboards?
Yes. Dictode connects your sources, models the data and builds English and Arabic dashboards on Klayara Analytics or your existing BI tool, typically in 2–4 weeks for a first release, quoted as a fixed scope.
